Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC)

Description:  Health Professional provides training and technical assistance to the child care community, plus consultation to families in their care, to promote safe and healthy environments in child care settings.  Support for establishing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures is offered.

 

Community Support

CCHC offers free community support to any licensed child care center or family child care home in New Hanover County.  The following are many of the free services available upon request:

  • assessing health and safety needs and practices in the child care setting

  • helping caregivers develop strategies for caring for children with special needs

  • assisting with establishing and improving health and safety policies and procedures

  • providing health and safety information to child care providers and parents

  • providing up-to-date information on the latest guidelines, policies, and information regarding child health and safety

  • offering support through telephone advice or regular site visits

  • connecting child care programs with needed resources

  • Quarterly newsletter

 

Early Childhood Workshops

SSCCHC offers a variety of health and safety-related training opportunities for staff working with young children including some of the following topics:

  • ITS-SIDS

  • Summer Safety

  • Playground Safety

  • Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Asthma Education Curriculum for Child Care Providers
