Covid-19 Update from Jane Morrow, ED

March 18th, 2020 | Posted in Community, Uncategorized

We know that this is one more in a series of Covid-19 emails you are getting and hope that everyone is actively seeking out whatever resources and supports they may need.  Social distancing can feel isolating so don’t neglect to seek out the supports and self-care that can help in these and other stressful times.

We have compiled a list of resources for children, families, and early educators on our website and invite you to bookmark it.  We will be making regular updates.

As a response to the evolving COVID-19 situation, and like many of you, Smart Start of New Hanover County has made some hard decisions aimed at protecting the health of our entire community.  After carefully weighing our options and our responsibility to training participants, trainers, our staff, and the children and families that we all serve, we are taking the following actions effective now until further notice:

Employees will be following DHHS recommendation to use teleworking technologies to the greatest extent possible. Staff is available via email and phone (see staff directory).

Resource Room and play area are closed, which includes no lending of materials or utilizing our laminating, die-cut, etc. services. If you have any items currently on loan, please hold on to them until we reopen.  While we regularly sanitize all Resource Room toys and materials, we are doing a deep cleaning and sanitizing while we are closed.

All Trainings & Support Meetings are cancelled or postponed.  SSNHC staff is available for phone, Zoom, and email consultation.

In-Person Consultation Visits are cancelled, but can be conducted virtually when possible.  SSNHC staff is available for phone, Zoom, and email consultation.

Events – All SSNHC hosted events are cancelled, and SSNHC staff will not be participating in other community events until further notice.

Meetings – We have the capacity to host some on-line meetings and conference calls. Please look for notifications for any planned meetings that have been shifted from in-person to on-line.

We will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and to stay connected with you.  It is more important than ever for us to support children and families in our community during this stressful and uncertain time. Please monitor our Website and Facebook page for updates and resources, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

Thank you as we work together to protect the health of our community.

Jane Morrow, Executive Director
