COVID-19 Update from the Early Care & Education Team

March 18th, 2020 | Posted in Community, Education, Uncategorized

Good morning!

I hope this email finds you well, healthy and taking care of yourself and the children in your care to the best of your ability. The ECE team at Smart Start is definitely thinking about how social distancing, businesses closing, and quarantines are affecting those working in child care.

A few updates from Smart Start I want to share:

  • The Smart Start office is closed to the public through March 27. However we are working from home and can be reached via email/website/phone calls.
  • We have cancelled the remaining workshops for March. If you were registered for one, you will receive a credit; we will try our best to reschedule them during our first quarter calendar (July-September) in which you’ll get first priority.
    • The newsletter with April-June trainings will be delayed. Our trainers have arranged workshop dates to start after April 17, in hopes that we’ll be able to provide workshops after this time.
  • We have suspended our services of visiting sites and classrooms to provide TA. However, we are working from home and checking email, so if you have a need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the consultant with whom you’ve been working, or any of us. We will help you as we can- phone calls, email, or even web-based face to face calls.
  • The Resource Room is also closed. We are not able to lend materials, do laminating, or other services. If you have any materials checked out, please hold on to them until we are open.
  • If you have been awarded the DTE individual bonus, your checks may be delayed in being mailed.

Also, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you find your program needs assistance in getting food/milk, etc. for your program to continue to operate. We have resources we can share with you for food, and other needs you may have in helping children, their families, and yourselves. We want to help make this stressful time as manageable as possible. We are still working to help you, just in a different capacity for the next week or so.

Your DCDEE consultants are also available to help as well. You should be getting email updates from DCDEE. If not, go to their website to sign up for them. (scroll to bottom of page- right side) https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/

Again, reach out to us if you’re in need of anything. We will help find the answer with you and for you!

Be well,

The Early Care & Education Team
