Help Us Recognize Community Members Who Go Above and Beyond for Young Children in New Hanover County

We’re proud to honor Clelia Tufts as the 2026 Children’s Champion and Kate Groat as our Starfish Public Advocacy Award recipient.

Honorees also include Anita Adekoya, Benita Miller, Cherelle Clemmons, Craig Castrovinci, Sean Perkins, Stacy Pullen, and The Wilmington Fire Department’s Child Passenger Safety Team.

Alongside an incredible group of honorees, these champions remind us what’s possible when a community shows up for its youngest children.

Each year, Smart Start of NHC proudly recognizes individuals in our community who demonstrate outstanding dedication to improving the lives of young children and their families during the first 2,000 days of life; from birth to age five.

Our Children’s Champions Fundraiser celebrates community leaders whose service, passion, and commitment have made a meaningful difference for children and families in New Hanover County.
