For Early Childhood Professionals

Smart Start of New Hanover County offers services that support early childhood professionals in our community by offering technical assistance, training, and access to resources. The goal is to help our early childhood community provide positive, stimulating, and quality early learning experiences for young children.

SSNHC is IACET Accredited

Smart Start of New Hanover County is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). SSNHC complies with the ANSI/IACET Standard, which is recognized internationally as a standard of excellence in instructional practices. SSNHC is accredited to issue the IACET CEU. This is an exciting time for the agency as we continue to exhibit our commitment to quality education.

Workshops & Training

Our experienced, knowledgeable staff offer convenient, practical and affordable training that support the diverse needs of early childhood professionals in order to meet licensing requirements, as well as to foster professionalism. Topics include:

General Technical Assistance

Upon request, Smart Start staff helps to increase and enhance quality practices and positive teacher-child interactions in preparation for the star-rating re-licensure or for “everyday quality”. Support with Challenging Behaviors and Inclusive Practices

Support will be available based on tools provided by the Center on the Social-Emotional Foundations of Early Learning and includes the promotion of healthy social-emotional behaviors in young children, the prevention of expulsion in child care, and the promotion of inclusive practices. There are two primary levels of support offered to the early childhood workforce based on the need and upon request: classroom specific and child-specific.
