4Smart Start of New Hanover County in conjunction with the Wilmington Faith Community hosted the

7th Annual First 2000 Days Community Summit

on February 17, 2020 at Lifepoint Church

Each year, Smart Start and the Faith community come together for a Community Summit to raise awareness and have conversations around issues facing children and families in our county during a child’s First 2000 Days. We invited our community members to join us and join in on the conversation.

High Quality Child Care can be an effective support for children who have experienced trauma and can help all children build resiliency skills that can last them a lifetime. The best preparation for a bad experience is good experiences.

Our community joined us for a viewing of excerpts from the award winning documentary, No Small Matter, panel discussions, and conversation on issues surrounding quality, access and affordability issues in early care and education.

Immediately following the Summit there was an opportunity to view a full version of the documentary No Small Matter.

No Small Matter is a feature-length documentary film and national engagement campaign that brings public attention to this vital question by sharing powerful stories and stunning truths about the human capacity for early intelligence and the potential for quality early care and education to benefit America’s social and economic future.
