Smart Start

To be competitive in the new world economy, children must be as prepared as possible to enter school.

This is why Smart Start of New Hanover County works to make sure children in New Hanover County get the health services, family support, and early education experiences needed to start school healthy and ready to succeed.

Smart Start is a winner of the Ford Foundation’s Innovations in American Government Award.

In July 2007 and with

funding from the Cape

Fear Memorial Foundation,

Smart Start of New

Hanover County was able

to bring Brazelton

trainers to Wilmington for a

Touchpoints Individual

Level Training.

A multi-disciplinary group

of five local service

providers have recently completed the

Touchpoints Community Level Training.

This team will be responsible for training and supporting

other New Hanover County service providers in implementation of the Touchpoints™ Approach.

More information about the Touchpoints™ Approach

and the work of Dr. T. Berry Brazelton can be found at www.touchpoints.org.
